Overview

iEARN-USA provides technology tools to students and training to teachers worldwide to enable them to engage in collaborative dialogue and action on issues facing the planet. With 20 years of experience, iEARN daily enables 2 million young people in 125 countries to work and learn together in collaborative online projects. Students gain valuable technology skills, but also learn how to access information, work together and gain a respect for other cultures.

Mission

To enable young people worldwide, working in collaboration and dialogue, to make a meaningful contribution to the health and welfare of the planet and its people.

Program

The VISION of iEARN-USA is that people engage in respectful dialogue and collaborative action to meet challenges of our world.

Eradicating Malaria: Students use technology to study causes, impact and prevention of water and mosquito-borne diseases. Through connective technologies, students educate each other worldwide, and create an international effort to stamp out one of the worst preventable diseases.

School-based telecenters in Costa Rica: Working with returned Peace Corps volunteers, iEARN is creating community telecenters in schools in rural areas to enable parents and young people out of school to gain technology and literacy skills needed for jobs in the globalized world.

Drinking Water: Students are working with community groups in rural Pakistan to dig wells and install renewable energy-driven pumps for communities without clean drinking water. Sharing their work online with others, iEARN students provide models for sustainable development projects which young people can initiate and maintain.

Child Soldiers: iEARN-Sierra Leone is creating youth technology centers for young people who were forced into serving as child soldiers or who were affected by them, providing necessary skills in digital technologies to break the cycle of despair and hopelessness.

Impact

When students engage interactively with others around the world, they have a chance to be both learner and teacher, telling their story, sharing their wisdom and perspective and listening to the knowledge that resides throughout the world. Through this process, students are motivated to explore, inquire, learn and take action. By working together experientially, they gain respect for differences, realize that they have something worth contributing and learn that they can impact their world.

iEARN has programs in 125 countries on every continent.
