Problem

Colombian journalists routinely face threats, assaults, and intimidation from all sides in the country’s ongoing civil war. Over the past decade, 28 journalists in Colombia have been killed for their work, making it one the world's most murderous countries for journalists. CPJ works to evacuate Colombian journalists in danger and place them in safe havens outside the country for three to six months, allowing time for threats to subside or for opportunities for extended exile.

The Gift

In addition to broad advocacy for threatened journalists in Columbia, one of the world’s most murderous countries for journalists, CPJ provides financial support for Columbian journalists in extreme and imminent danger. A modest contribution can go very far in Columbia, enabling a threatened journalist to enter a safe haven. Your gift of $250 will be matched by CPJ to host a Colombian journalist in a safe haven, including accommodation and food for one month. While CPJ advocates on behalf of any journalist attacked for their work, your contribution will support only the families of journalists where CPJ has ascertained funds can be delivered legally, safely, and reliably and will have a significant impact on the journalist and their family.
